What it is for
A poster is the simplest way to put a picture on a wall at a real size. Paper is also the surface that holds fine detail best.
Print resolution matters most here. A design generated at the print size, as ours are, stays sharp at arm's length.
Digital printing
Digital printing is high-resolution inkjet: pigment ink is laid onto paper, canvas, card or a label in fine dots.
It has the widest colour range of any method here, and the finest detail, which is why it is used for art prints.
The finish depends on the stock — matte, satin or gloss — not on the ink.
Designs that suit it
Anything you would frame: a photograph, a map of a place, a painting-style scene, a typographic print. Portrait or landscape to match where it will hang.
The print area is on the front: 4,200 × 3,300 pixels, about 14.0 × 11.0 in at 300 dpi — a roughly square area. The studio generates the design at that size, so it is printed from a full-resolution file rather than an enlarged preview.
Photographs, paintings, maps and fine type. Less suited: very large flat areas of a single dark colour on matte stock, which can show slight banding up close.
Sentences that would suit it
“A fox dancing in a leaf hat, for a kid who loves foxes”
Dancing Fox, Ohara Koson, 1900s. Public domain. Shown on our example vertical framed poster.
“A tiger in a dreamy jungle for my nephew's room”
Fight Between a Tiger and a Buffalo, Henri Rousseau, 1908. Public domain. Shown on our example vertical framed poster.
“A thank-you for my daughter's teacher at the end of the year”
Example design by Vessim. Shown on our example vertical framed poster.
Examples by Vessim: public-domain art and our own lettering, not studio output. The studio designs yours from your sentence.
Where it is printed, and when it arrives
It is printed to order in Longmont, CO, United States, then shipped: 10–30 business days to Canada ($25.47 CAD for the first item) and 3–8 business days to the US ($19.58 CAD). Each window counts from the day the order is placed and includes printing.
Printed in North America, so it ships without an overseas leg and no import duties apply within North America.

Before you order
How long does the Matte Horizontal Posters take to arrive?

Can I put a photo on the Matte Horizontal Posters?
Yes. Digital printing is the best method here for photographs: the widest colour range and the finest detail. The print file is 4200 × 3300 pixels on the front, so a photo should be at least that size to print sharply.
