What it is for
An insulated tumbler or bottle goes everywhere with someone — car, gym, desk — so a design on one is carried all day.
Lids and bases are not printed, and a powder-coated or steel finish changes how colours read compared with white ceramic.
UV printing
UV printing jets ink onto the surface and cures it instantly with ultraviolet light, which lets it print directly on rigid and coated materials.
Colour is dense and edges are sharp. On clear or coloured materials a white layer can be laid under the colour so it does not look washed out.
The ink sits on the surface with a very slight raised texture.
Designs that suit it
Wraps around a cylinder like a mug, but taller. Vertical designs, patterns and names running top to bottom suit the proportions.
The print area is on the front: 3,000 × 1,713 pixels, about 10.0 × 5.7 in at 300 dpi — a wide, landscape area. The studio generates the design at that size, so it is printed from a full-resolution file rather than an enlarged preview.
Photographs, sharp graphics and type on hard surfaces. Less suited: very thin lines on textured surfaces, where the ink follows the grain.
