What it is for
A mug is the gift that gets used every morning. It sits on a desk or a counter, so the design is seen by the person who received it more than by anyone else.
Handles and the rim are not printed; the wrap stops a little short of the handle on both sides.
Dye sublimation
Sublimation prints the design onto transfer paper with dye ink; heat then turns the dye into a gas that bonds into a polyester coating or polyester fibre.
Colour becomes part of the surface rather than a layer on top, so it is vivid and does not crack or peel. It cannot print white: white in a design shows as the colour of the item itself, which is why sublimated items are white or pale.
There is no texture at all — on fabric you cannot feel the print, and on a mug it is under a smooth coating.
Designs that suit it
The print wraps around the body. A design about twice as wide as it is tall fills it; a single image can be placed on one side, or repeated so it shows whichever hand holds the mug.
The print area is on the front: 2,250 × 900 pixels, about 7.5 × 3.0 in at 300 dpi — a wide, landscape area. The studio generates the design at that size, so it is printed from a full-resolution file rather than an enlarged preview.
Full-colour photographs, paintings and edge-to-edge patterns. Less suited: designs that rely on white ink, and important detail right at seams, handles or edges where the transfer wraps.

Before you order
How long does the Stein Mug take to arrive?
It does not currently ship to Canada; to the US, 10–15 business days ($32.87 CAD). It is printed to order in Oakville, ON, Canada, and the window counts from the day you order, printing included.
Can I put a photo on the Stein Mug?
Yes. Sublimation reproduces photographs in full colour with no texture. White areas print as the item's own colour, so a photo with a white background blends into it. The print file is 2250 × 900 pixels on the front, so a photo should be at least that size to print sharply.
When should I order the Stein Mug for Christmas?
With standard shipping, by December 4 to the US. Those dates count this product's longest delivery window back from December 25 in business days. Express shipping at checkout, where it is offered, shortens the window.
How do I look after the Stein Mug?
It is sublimation-printed, and that sets the care. Hand washing keeps the colour brightest for longest. For dishwasher and microwave use, follow the product spec below for this exact item. No abrasive sponges on the printed area.
