What it is for
A blanket is the most physical gift there is: used every night on a couch or a bed, and the thing people reach for when they are unwell or sad.
Plush and sherpa surfaces soften fine detail slightly; bold images look best.
Dye sublimation
Sublimation prints the design onto transfer paper with dye ink; heat then turns the dye into a gas that bonds into a polyester coating or polyester fibre.
Colour becomes part of the surface rather than a layer on top, so it is vivid and does not crack or peel. It cannot print white: white in a design shows as the colour of the item itself, which is why sublimated items are white or pale.
There is no texture at all — on fabric you cannot feel the print, and on a mug it is under a smooth coating.
Designs that suit it
Large photographs, paintings and patterns all work at blanket size. The whole face is printed, so the edges of the design show.
The print area is on the front: 5,350 × 6,350 pixels, about 17.8 × 21.2 in at 300 dpi — a roughly square area. The studio generates the design at that size, so it is printed from a full-resolution file rather than an enlarged preview.
Full-colour photographs, paintings and edge-to-edge patterns. Less suited: designs that rely on white ink, and important detail right at seams, handles or edges where the transfer wraps.

Before you order
How long does the Sherpa Blankets take to arrive?
It does not currently ship to Canada; to the US, 10–30 business days ($56.98 CAD). It is printed to order in Newton Abbot, Devon, United Kingdom, and the window counts from the day you order, printing included.
Can I put a photo on the Sherpa Blankets?
Yes. Sublimation reproduces photographs in full colour with no texture. White areas print as the item's own colour, so a photo with a white background blends into it. The print file is 5350 × 6350 pixels on the front, so a photo should be at least that size to print sharply.
What sizes does the Sherpa Blankets come in?
2 sizes: 50" × 60", 60" × 80".
When should I order the Sherpa Blankets for Christmas?
With standard shipping, by November 13 to the US. Those dates count this product's longest delivery window back from December 25 in business days. Express shipping at checkout, where it is offered, shortens the window.
How do I look after the Sherpa Blankets?
It is sublimation-printed, and that sets the care. Wash cold, inside out. Tumble dry low. No bleach; the colour is in the fibre, so it will not crack.
